Mythmaker is a library of interactive stories. This page covers the waitlist and the free story: what information we collect, why, who handles it, and what you can do about it.
Contact us anytime at playmythmaker@gmail.com.
Who we are
Mythmaker is responsible for (the “controller” of) the information described here. You can reach us at playmythmaker@gmail.com, or by mail at:
Mythmaker
304 S. Jones Blvd #1774
Las Vegas, NV 89107
United States
What we collect
- Your email address, when you join the waitlist.
- Signup records kept by our email service: when you signed up and confirmed, and the IP address you used.
- Email activity: whether you open or click our emails.
- Visit counts: the waitlist page tells our email service when it’s viewed, once per browser, so we can see how many visitors sign up. A small marker is stored in your browser so you’re only counted once.
- Standard technical data any website receives, such as your IP address and browser type, which our hosting providers may log briefly to run the site.
We don’t ask for your name, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
If you play the free story, your progress (your place in the story, your saves, and whether you’ve joined the waitlist) is stored only in your own browser. It is never sent to us, and clearing your browser data erases it.
Joining the waitlist is optional. If you don’t give us your email, you can still play the free story.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
If you’re in the European Economic Area or the UK, data protection law (the GDPR) requires a legal basis for each use of your information. Ours are:
- Sending you waitlist and new-story emails: your consent, which you give by signing up and confirming your address. You can withdraw it anytime by unsubscribing; that doesn’t affect emails sent before.
- Keeping signup records: our legitimate interest in being able to show that you agreed to our emails, and in preventing fake or abusive signups.
- Measuring email opens and clicks, and counting page visits: our legitimate interest in knowing whether our emails arrive and whether the waitlist page works. You can object anytime (see below).
- Running and securing the website: our legitimate interest in keeping the site working and safe.
We don’t use your information for automated decisions or profiling that affect you.
Who handles it
We don’t sell, rent or trade your information, or share it for advertising. A few services help run Mythmaker and only process data on our behalf to do that job:
- MailerLite stores the waitlist, sends our emails and counts page visits.
- Netlify hosts this website.
International transfers
These services may process data outside your country, including in the United States. When information from the EEA or the UK goes to a country without an equivalent level of protection, it’s protected by the safeguards each provider offers, such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework (and its UK extension) or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Email playmythmaker@gmail.com for more detail.
How long we keep it
- Your email and signup records: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. After you unsubscribe, MailerLite keeps a record of your address so you aren’t emailed again by mistake.
- Unconfirmed signups (you never clicked the confirmation link): you won’t get our emails, and we remove these periodically.
- Hosting logs: kept briefly by our hosting providers under their own retention periods.
Your rights
You can:
- Unsubscribe anytime with the link at the bottom of any email.
- See the information we hold about you and get a copy of it.
- Correct it if it’s wrong.
- Delete it.
- Restrict how we use it, or object to uses based on our legitimate interests.
- Take it with you in a portable format.
- Withdraw your consent anytime.
To use any of these, email playmythmaker@gmail.com. We reply within 30 days.
If you’re in the EEA or the UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. We’d appreciate the chance to sort it out with you first.
If you live in California or another U.S. state with a privacy law, you have similar rights to know, access, correct and delete your information, and we won’t treat you differently for using them. We don’t sell or share personal information as those laws define it.
Children
Mythmaker isn’t meant for children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and the UK), and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has signed up, email playmythmaker@gmail.com and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, we’ll update the date above, and we’ll tell people on the list before any bigger change takes effect.
